 Rule 13


ଯେତେବେଳେ ଦୁଇଟି Subject not only...but also ସହିତ ଯୋଡାଯାଇଥାଏ, Verb ଏହାର ନିକଟସ୍ଥ Subject ଅନୁଯାୟୀ ଲାଗେ:


Examples:

(a) Not only the Principal but also the teachers were playing the match.

(b) Not only the students but also the class teacher was involved in the discussion.

Rule 14


ଯେତେବେଳେ ଗୋଟିଏ Subject ସହିତ beside, as well as, and, in addition to, like, with, together with ପ୍ରଭୃତି Conjunction ଯୋଡି ଅନ୍ୟ Subject ଯୋଡାଯାଏ, Verb ବାକ୍ୟର ପ୍ରଥମ Subject ଅନୁଯାୟୀ ଲାଗେ:


Examples:

(a) Ram and not his friends was present there.

(b) The house with all its belongings was sold.

(c) The President as well as the members has come.

(d) The pigeon like other birds has wings.

(e) Four questions in addition to the first question have to be answered.

Rule 15


ଯେତେବେଳେ ବାକ୍ୟରେ Other ଓ another ପରେ ଯଦି Plural Noun ଆସେ, ତେବେ Plural Verb ଲାଗେ; ଓ another ପରେ Singular Noun ଆସିଲେ Singular Verb ଲାଗିଥାଏ:


Examples:

(a) There are so many other hotels better than this.

(b) There is another hotel near the Railway.

Rule 16


The poor, The rich, The disabled, The young, The old, The English, The French ଇତ୍ୟାଦିକୁ Class ରୂପେ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯାଏ (ଯଥା: The poor = ସମସ୍ତ ଗରିବ ଲୋକ). ଏହା ସହିତ Plural Verb ବ୍ୟବହାର ହୁଏ। The poors, The riches ଲେଖିବା ଭୁଲ:


Examples:

(a) The poor are trustworthy.

(b) The rich are generally unkind to the poor.

Rule 17


ଯେତେବେଳେ ଦୁଇ Singular Subject କୁ and ଦ୍ୱାରା ଯୋଡାଯାଏ, ତେବେ Verb Plural ହୁଏ:


Examples:

(a) He and she were present in the function.

(b) Ram and Rahim are friends.

Rule 18


Hair (ଚୁଲ) ସାଧାରଣତଃ Singular ଭାବରେ ବ୍ୟବହୃତ ହୁଏ ଓ Singular Verb ଲାଗେ; କିନ୍ତୁ ଯଦି ଚୁଲକୁ Count କରାଯାଏ, ତେବେ Verb Plural ହୁଏ:


Examples:

(a) His hair is black.

(b) Five hairs of the horse are needed by him.

Rule 19


ସାଧାରଣତଃ All ଓ Some ସହିତ Countable Noun ଆସିଲେ, ତେବେ Noun ଓ Verb Plural ହୁଏ;

ଯଦି Uncountable Noun ଆସେ, ତେବେ Verb Singular ହୁଏ:

ଯଦି All ଏକ Unit ରୂପେ ବ୍ୟବହୃତ ହୁଏ, ତେବେ Verb Singular ଲାଗିଥାଏ


Examples (Countable):

(a) All the tigers are wild animals.

(b) Some animals are faithful.


Examples (Uncountable):

(a) All the money was taken away by the thief.

(b) Some milk is needed.


Examples (All as a Unit):

(a) He informed the police all that happened last night.

(b) I would inform you all that was discussed in the meeting.

Rule 20


ଯଦି Most of ସହିତ Countable Noun ଆସିଥାଏ, ତେବେ Plural Verb ଲାଗିଥାଏ; ଯଦି Uncountable Noun ଆସିଥାଏ, ତେବେ Singular Verb ହୁଏ:


Examples (Countable):

(a) Most of the persons are dishonest.

(b) Most of apples are rotten.


Examples (Uncountable):

(c) Most of the milk was impure.

(d) Most of the sugar was wet with water.

Rule 21


Half of ସହିତ Countable Noun ଆସିଲେ, Verb Plural ହୁଏ; ଯଦି Uncountable Noun ଆସେ, ତେବେ Verb Singular ଲାଗିଥାଏ:


Examples (Countable):

(a) About half of the students were present there.

(b) He said that half of the hostlers were absent.


Examples (Uncountable):

(c) Half of the milk was spoiled.

(d) Half of the land was cultivated and half was uncultivable.
