Rule 30
More than one ସହ କୌଣସି noun ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯିବାପରେ Verb ସିଂଗୁଲାର ହୁଏ:
ଯେପରିକି:
(a) More than one worker was absent.
(b) More than one student was killed.
📝 ଟିପ୍ପଣୀ:
More than one ଯଦିଓ Plural ସଂଖ୍ୟାକୁ ଦର୍ଶାଏ, ତଥାପି ଏହାକୁ singular verb ସହ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯାଏ:
ଉଦାହରଣ: “More than one workman was killed,” not “workmen were killed.”

କିଛି ବାକ୍ୟରେ more ର ବ୍ୟବହାର ନିମ୍ନପ୍ରକାର ହୁଏ:
1. More books than one have been purchased by her.
2. More girls than one were present in the party.
3. More students than one have attended the class.
4. More workmen than one are not traceable.
📌 ଏପରି ବାକ୍ୟଗୁଡିକୁ Plural Verb ସହ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯାଏ।

କିଛି ବାକ୍ୟରେ Noun + Preposition + Noun ବ୍ୟବହାର ଥାଏ, ଏବଂ Verb ହୁଏ ପ୍ରଥମ noun ଅନୁଯାୟୀ:
ଉଦାହରଣ:
1. The quality of these goods is well known.
2. Financial help from all the countries was received.
3. The color of this shirt is liked by all.
4. Your views on this matter are supported by all.
5. The details of the accident were not received by us so far.
6. The cost of production of steel goods is increasing.
7. Economic cooperation between India and Pakistan is increasing.
8. The smell of these flowers is liked by all.
📝 ଟିପ୍ପଣୀ:
ଯଦି noun + preposition + noun ର structure ଥାଏ, ତେବେ ଭାବନାର ଅନୁସାରେ ପ୍ରଥମ noun ଅନୁଯାୟୀ verb ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯାଏ।
ଉଦାହରଣ:
(1) The manager’s remarks in a newspaper were not appreciated by any one.
(2) The cost of production of steel items is increasing everywhere.

Rule 33
ଯଦି ବାକ୍ୟରେ a number of, lots of, a lot of, plenty of, a quarter of, part of, percent of, some of, majority of, much of, many of ଭଳି phrases ଥାଏ, ତେବେ ତା’ପରେ ଥିବା noun ର number ଅନୁଯାୟୀ verb ହୁଏ:
ଯଦି noun ହୁଏ Plural → verb ମଧ୍ୟ Plural:
(1) Plenty of sugar is required.
(2) Plenty of chairs have been purchased.
(3) A lot of books were destroyed in fire.
(4) A lot of milk was sent there.
📌 ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ:
Countable noun → Plural verb
Uncountable noun → Singular verb
ଉଦାହରଣ:
(a) A number of boys, Plenty of books → Boys/books are countable.
(b) Plenty of milk, a lot of sugar → Milk/sugar are uncountable.
ଅନ୍ୟ ଉଦାହରଣ:
A large proportion of the northern army was British.
The rest of the prose of the age is too voluminous.
Most of those who use it probably assert it as singular.
There were a number of such little reasons.
The majority of writers never pass that stage.
Much of time is lost.
Much of the sugar is impure.

The number → Singular verb

ଉଦାହରଣ:
(1) The number of students opted English in Administrative Services is generally small.
(2) The number of candidates appeared in SSC this year was very large.
(3) A number of English books are available in the library.
(4) There were a number of students waiting for their turn.
