 Rule 22


There ପରେ ଆସୁଥିବା Verb Plural ହେବ କିମ୍ବା Singular ହେବ, ଏହା ଉପରେ ନିର୍ଭର କରେ ଯେ ବାକ୍ୟର Subject Plural କିମ୍ବା Singular |

Examples:

(a) There is a girl in the room.

(b) There are ten students in the class.

(c) There was a queen.

(d) There were several ministers in the party.

Rule 23


କିଛି nouns, ଯେପରି: furniture, luggage, information, advice, work, knowledge, equipment, behaviour, scenery, traffic, fruit, electricity, music, progress, weather, nonsense, sense, ଇତ୍ୟାଦି uncountable noun ହେଉଛନ୍ତି | ଏହାଙ୍କର Plural ରୂପ ନ ହୁଏ | ଏମିତି noun ସହିତ a/an ର ବ୍ୟବହାର ହୋଇନଥାଏ ଏବଂ singular verb ବ୍ୟବହୃତ ହୁଏ |

Examples:

(a) Work is worship.

(b) Knowledge is power.

(c) His behaviour was not proper.

(d) His advice in the matter is trustworthy.

(e) The scenery of Kashmir is indeed beautiful.

Rule 24


As follows (ଏକ phrase) ର ବ୍ୟବହାର ଠିକ୍, as follow ଲେଖିବା ଭୁଲ |

Examples:

(a) The main points are as follows. (not as follow)

(b) The details are as follows. (not as follow)

Rule 25


The following ଓ the undersigned ଯଦି singular subject ଭାବରେ ଥାଏ, ତେବେ singular verb ହେବ, ନାହିଁ ହେଲେ plural verb ହେବ |

Examples:

(a) The following are the new prices of the items.

(b) Undersigned has taken a decision. — S.K. Jain

(c) We, the undersigned, request the pleasure of your company. — S.K. Jain and P.K. Jain

(d) The following is the summary of the discussions held in the meeting.

Rule 26


କିଛି ବାକ୍ୟରେ Singular noun ର repetition, preposition ପରେ ଥିଲେ, ତେବେ verb ସିଙ୍ଗୁଲାର ହୁଏ |

Examples:

(a) Man after man was coming there.

(b) One month after another has passed.

(c) Ship after ship is arriving regularly.

(d) He begs from door to door.

Rule 27


କିଛି Nouns ଦୁଇଭାଗରେ ବନା ଥିବାରୁ Plural ଦେଖାଯାଏ, ତେଣୁ ଏହାଙ୍କ ସହିତ Plural Verb ବ୍ୟବହୃତ ହୁଏ |

Examples:

(a) My shoes are new.

(b) The scissors are blunt.

(c) His pants are tight.

(d) Her spectacles are beautiful.


ଯଦି pair ସହିତ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯାଏ, ତେବେ Verb Singular ହୁଏ:

(a) Only a pair of shoes is required.

(b) A pair of scissors was purchased by me.

Rule 28


କିଛି nouns ଯେପରି: sheep, fish, deer, pice — Singular ଓ Plural ଦୁହିଁ ରୂପରେ ଏକାକି ରହନ୍ତି |

Examples:

(a) A sheep is a beautiful animal.

(b) Many sheep are grazing there.

(c) I found a pice.

(d) I found five pice.

(e) ❌ There are many fishes in the pond. — Incorrect

✅ There are many fish in the pond. — Correct

Rule 29


ଯଦି କୌଣସି ବାକ୍ୟରେ infinitive, gerund, phrase କିମ୍ବା clause subject ଭାବେ ବ୍ୟବହୃତ ହୁଏ, ତେବେ Singular Verb ବ୍ୟବହୃତ ହୁଏ |

Examples:

(1) Swimming is a good exercise. (Gerund)

(2) To swim is good for you. (Infinitive)

(3) How to start it is a big question. (Phrase)

(4) That she is poor is known to me. (Clause)
